PWS have passed stage one of the new environmental award BS8555 and are the first Newry company to achieve this standard (and one of the first in Northern Ireland)
PWS is one of Eleven companies selected to take part in Invest NI’s Building Blocks to a Better Business pilot programme for the phased implementation of Environmental Management Systems using the approach of the new BS8555 standard.
The pilot programme consists of a number of group workshops each followed with consultancy support on a one-to-one basis, allowing the companies to progress in a phased manner with the implementation of their Environmental Management Systems.
BS8555 offers a radical but proven approach to managing the environment for organisations wishing to apply an appropriate level of environmental management system for their activities.
Until recently recognition of an EMS has only been possible with accreditation to ISO14001 or EMAS. BS8555 uses a 6 Phase approach and provides extensive guidance on phase achievement to direct companies towards a fully accredited EMS. Organisations can choose the phase most appropriate to their needs and gain recognition for achieving the requirements as described in the guidance material.
PWS plans to attain the BS8555 qualification in June 2004. |
